Adjacent Strzelecki State Forest contains some of the tallest eucalyptus trees in Australia. To scale them in the picture on the right above, consider that the road is about 5 m wide. Australia is in general a dry continent, but at Mt Best the rainfall exceeds 1 meter per year, so that the lush rainforest flourishes all year round.

At the bottom of nearly every gully is a creek, some of them with quite spectacular waterfalls.
